The Meaning of Home with Jen Pollock Michel
Years before ever getting married, having babies and being a full time homemaker, I *knew* that was all I wanted to do. Step aside college! Stay-at-home-mom-life full speed ahead! It was a life-long dream, my heart’s desire… a longing.
A few years ago I stumbled upon the book, “Keeping Place: Reflections on the Meaning of Home,” by Jen Pollock Michel and learned so much about the true meaning of home, and about our efforts as homemakers.
Do you often hear or read that the life of the housewife and stay-at-home mom is lonely and boring? Why does most of America (most of the world?) believe that, and more importantly… what caused it?
Pre-COVID-19, the streets in my suburban neighborhood were typically void of very much life or community interaction. Neighbors would open their garage door and drive away early each morning. Nine hours later when they returned, in stealth-like fashion, the garage door would open just long enough for them to pull in and quickly retreat again.
Though we’re still not mingling much, (as of this writing- March 2020), there are so many more people out walking and riding bicycles. Homemaking used to be very much a community activity.
Without remembering why you’re doing what you’re doing, you will become weary. This podcast episode gives you that why.

Blessings, Elisabeth
